今年の漢字に関する記事から一つ。

こういう記事を説明してあげたり、このニュースはね・・・と言って、紹介して説明してもらえる日本人を、外国の観光客や留学生はとても重宝がる。

そういうことができる日本人が少ないから。

私たちにとっては、単に「今年の漢字は密だったのね」で終わるけど、

Kanji of the year = 今年の漢字

と知っているだけでも、かなり会話が広がる。

でもさすがに、これなに？って言われると説明できるのがいいよね。

記事から表現を盗もう。

“Kanji of the year” is a Kanji character selected at the end of each year by the Japanese public as the Kanji best describing this year’s social mood in Japan.（＝「今年の漢字」とは、毎年年末に、日本の人口が選ぶ、その年の日本のソーシャル・ムードを表すベストな漢字として選ばれた漢字のこと。）

This year’s “kanji of the year” was “mitsu”, a Kanji character meaning “dense” or “close”.（＝今年の「今年の漢字」は「密」だった。「濃い」「近い」を表す。）

とまあ、ここまで言えると、素晴らしい。
